“What if I had fallen tonight? On the side walk just down the way- you know the one I mean? What if I had slipped and fell and really hurt myself? If I had landed on my knee in just the right spot, dislocating it with all too familiar pain. Only this time-instead of popping back into place with a snap- my knee stays dislocated. This time the pain is too much. This time I lie there, unable to stand because the joint is off to the side. The only thing keeping it even near my knee is the skin the knee cap is encased within. What if I had scraped my knee as well? Or worse, my leg- a crimson
